A thousand way to exploit each mistake. Not a thousand ways to exploit all together, thus you way less than half done.

Will we ever see Jet and his troops again?

More than likely. The Freedom Fighters seem too intriguing to be a one-shot deal. As for Jet, he is the living display of what happens when you allow your hatred to fester and grow unchecked. The fact that he was willing to drown an entire town just to get at a few Fire Nation soldiers shows that Jet is not a true hero. If he could kill off Azula, Zuko or Big Daddy Ozai, but would have to sacrifice the lives of his comrades in the process, I've no doubt Jet would go for it. In my humble opinion, Jet's hate of the Fire Nation will totally consume his life until the day he dies.

Well said. Jet's blinded by his own thirst for revenge.

Thank you for that. In a way, I see Jet as the direct inverse of Azula in terms of loyalty. Whereas she seems to have a mad-dog loyalty to her Nation, Jet's hatred and loathing for all the Fire Nation stands for is equal in devotion and intensity. It'd be funny if the two ever crossed paths: The twin tiger hookswords-wielding rebel versus the Firebending prodigy. ...Though, I wouldn't be surprised if Jet was from the Fire Nation originally. After all, Fire Nation children are presumedly told that their nation is good, and all the others are bad. I believe a slightly-altered excerpt from one of my favorite anime characters, Yuyu Hakusho's Shinobu Sensui, would suffice to be placed here: "When I was a young man, they told me: 'They (the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes) are not like us, so they must be against us. Their difference threatens our sameness. It is us versus them. The Fire Nation is good, and they are bad. We are just, and they are unjust." Yet, seeing Jet's parents murdered by his own people must have sent him off the deep end. The supposedly pure and virtuous Fire Nation, killing his parents, must have inverted his beliefs. After all, in a child's mind, if they could lie about that, then everything they say is a lie until proven otherwise.

Not just in a child's mind. Anyone's mind. Twist and turn someone's morals enough, and you'd be surprised at what changes occur in their personality.

I understand your point, Nightspade. I guess I phrased that last sentence poorly. Since the incident occured in Jet's childhood when combined with the teachings he'd have most likely been receiving, it was far more traumatic than it'd have normally been. And trust me, I agree with you that a person's morality can be shaped like clay in the proper hands (or improper, as the case may be). My OC, Genjuro, is a master of doing such, despite his role as a priest. It's an odd habit of his, but he likes to see what makes people follow the paths they follow and what inspires them to commit the acts they commit. Sorry if I went off topic.

Off topic? This is character discussion.

I meant that only in reference to my OC, Genjuro. I know how Original Characters are sometimes looked at with scrutiny, considering the infamous and deadly Mary-Sues and Gary-Stus.

I've lost many a brain cell to those two types of OCs... I wish I could do Algebra again.

As do I. Though, I did make a Gary-Stu or two way back when I didn't know better as an up-and-coming fanficcer. Now, I simply read other Avatar Gary-Stus and Mary-Sues and make sure that whatever they do, my OCs do the opposite. But in any case, I wouldn't be surprised if my theory is proven correct in future with the revelation of Jet having been Fire Nation-born.
